Glengoyne 21-year with box
Experience the epitome of Highland single malt with Glengoyne 21 Year Old, a testament to unhurried tradition and meticulous sherry cask maturation. This exquisite whisky, bottled with its natural color, offers a profound journey of rich dark fruits, complex spices, and decadent chocolate notes. A truly refined indulgence for the discerning palate.
Tasting Notes
Nose: A sophisticated and inviting bouquet, immediately revealing rich notes of dark fruit cake, glazed cherries, and sticky toffee pudding, interwoven with delicate hints of orange peel and polished antique leather. Underlying this sweetness are whispers of baking spices – cinnamon, nutmeg, and a touch of star anise – alluding to its long maturation in quality sherry casks. A subtle earthiness, like damp forest floor after rain, adds complexity.
Palate: The first sip is a luxurious embrace, full-bodied and velvety on the tongue. Expect an explosion of sweet sherry influence, showcasing stewed plums, figs, and dates, harmoniously balanced by bitter dark chocolate and roasted walnuts. A wave of vanilla and caramel emerges, alongside gentle oak spices, black pepper, and ginger. There's a subtle, almost imperceptible saline note that adds another layer of intrigue, preventing it from becoming cloyingly sweet.
Finish: Long, warming, and exceptionally satisfying. The sweet and spicy notes linger beautifully, particularly the dried fruits and sherry influence. Traces of dark chocolate and espresso coffee gradually fade, leaving a gentle, dry oak and a whisper of tobacco leaf. The finish is remarkably clean for such a mature whisky, a testament to its natural color and careful crafting.
About the Distillery
Glengoyne Distillery, established in 1833, is renowned for its unhurried approach to whisky making, characterized by the slowest distillation process in Scotland. Located at the Highland line, it is unique in that its stills are in the Highlands, but the warehouses are technically in the Lowlands. They pride themselves on producing whisky with no added caramel coloring, emphasizing the natural influence of their carefully selected casks.
