Tasting Notes

Nose: Initial notes of sea spray and a subtle brininess, characteristic of Springbank. This quickly gives way to rich malty sweetness, honeyed oats, and dried fruit, particularly apricots and sultanas. A whisper of industrial oil and damp earth underpins the fruit, with a faint hint of tobacco leaf and old leather emerging with time.

Palate: A surprisingly full and oily mouthfeel for 43% ABV. The palate opens with a sweet and savory complexity; toffee, vanilla, and salted caramel mingle with a definitive maritime character. There's a gentle peat smoke presence, more like a smouldering ember than an open fire, which complements notes of stone fruit, ginger, and a delicate nuttiness. Hints of citrus peel and dark chocolate add further depth.

Finish: Long, warming, and evolving. The maritime influence lingers, alongside a persistent sweetness of burnt sugar and dark honey. The peat smoke gracefully recedes, leaving a pleasant dry oak spice, black pepper, and a subtle saltiness on the tongue. There's a final, almost dusty mineral note at the very end.

Established in 1828, Springbank Distillery is one of Scotland's oldest independent distilleries, located in Campbeltown.
